Belleville is a great mystery of Ontario region. The official city language is English. The City History The original name of settlement at today’s Belleville territory was Asukhknosk. In 1789 the United Empire Loyalists defined this location for the future city that was named Meyer`s Creek in honour of John Walden Meyers, one of the first industrialists settled here.

Only in 1816 the city was got the name of Belleville after Lady Arabella Gore, Sir Francis Gore’s wife who visited the town with her husband. Soon Belleville became an important transport nodal point, after the construction of Grand Funk Railroad that was finished in 1855.
